Western Crete
Discover the fantastic diversity of landscapes in Western Crete with mountains rearing straight from the sea, deep wooded gorges, ravines and valleys. This harsh but beautiful countryside has been the back drop to ancient civilisations . Our tour starts in Hania from where we descend the spectacular Samarian Gorge down to the coast of the Libyan Sea. We follow coastal paths by Sweetwater Bay to Hora Sfakion and stay in the blue and white painted Loutro only accessible by foot or boat . We visit the ancient ruins of Agios Pavios, take a boat to Sougia and walk via the coastal path, passing through the ancient classical Greek and Roman remains of Lissos to the coastal town of Paleochora. Accommodation will be in the historic harbour town of Hania at the start and end of the tour, moving on to the southern resorts of Agia Roumeli, Loutro, Sougia and Paleochora. Because of the very nature of this tour it is not possible to transport luggage between hotels. It is essential therefore that a very minimal amount is carried during the tour. A bag with fresh clothes can be left at Hania at the start of the tour.
