Derbyshire Dales - Dovedale
Dovedale has long been acknowledged as a gem of English scenery. This is the countryside of Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre' with lush green dales winding through open moorland, bespeckeld with tiny unspoilt villages, verdant farm land criss -crossed by fine stone walls. We walk by the magnificent pinnacles of Illam Rock and Tissington Spires while following the deeply cut gorge to Alstonfield with its cottages clustered around the village green. We have lunch in the George Inn a traditional country pub, and follow field paths through fields dotted with wild flowers. We amble our way along the banks of the Dove through Bereford Dale and on to the village of Tissington. From high on Musden Low an ancient burial mound we, can enjoy wide uninterrupted views across Derbyshire and Shropshire. Our hotel is The Izaak Walton owned by the Duke of Rutland, in a stunning setting at the mouth of Dovedale with fine views to the perfect mini mountain of Thorpe Cloud.
